Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the Mountain Crib

Interested in purchasing a full crib and toddler bed, but don’t need a mini-crib? We recommend our Mountain crib! Here, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about our Mountain crib so that you can decide if it’s the right fit for your nursery.

Pre-Purchase

1. What is the Mountain crib?

The Mountain crib starts off as a full crib and then converts to a toddler bed. Unlike our other cribs, it does not have a mini crib configuration.

2. What is the Mountain crib made of?

The Mountain crib is made from sustainably-harvested, solid Brazilian pine for the spindles and legs and uses eco-engineered wood for the white accents and mattress support.

3. What safety standards / certifications does the Mountain crib have?

Nestig meets and exceeds the safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and ASTM International, most recently the ASTM F833-15 standard. We’ve also taken our commitment to safety one step further by testing and certifying our products with the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) whose requirements go above and beyond the mandatory governmental requirements.

The Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association certifies that both our cribs are non-toxic and that they have a high mechanical quality.

For materials and chemicals, safety in both the construction and paints/finishes is our top priority. When we use eco-engineered wood or glue, we always use TSCA Title VI compliant materials. This means that our products comply with the strictest formaldehyde standards.

All wood used on our cribs comes from reforested areas in Brazil that are maintained by our suppliers. We work with wood suppliers that are FSC certified, which adds an additional assurance that the wood came from a responsible source with minimal impact to the environment. There is also no fire retardant used on the crib.

We use a clear coat of finishing in our products to maintain the quality of wood over time. Our finishings and paints come from top-quality brands and meet all US safety requirements.

4. Does the Mountain crib include a mattress?

The Mountain crib does not include a full size mattress, but both the Mountain full crib and toddler bed are designed to be compatible with any standard-sized full crib mattress.

If you’re interested, we have three different full crib mattresses available that we love!

5. At what age should I transition to the toddler bed?

The full crib can be used from day one to when a child reaches 35 inches or begins to climb.

We recommend transitioning to the toddler bed once your child reaches 15 months or 50 pounds.

6. What are the assembled dimensions for each crib conversion stage?

It’s always a good idea to know what the assembled crib measures in each configuration to be able to decide if it will be the perfect fit your nursery space!

Full crib: 53.77" length x 30" width x 35.4" height with 4” legs

Toddler bed: 53.77” length x 30.08” width x 23.62” height

8. Adjustable heights:

Here are the heights as measured from the ground to the top of the mattress support:

Full Crib Mattress Support Heights

Lowest: 9” from the ground

Medium: 14.7” from the ground

Hightest: 20.3” from the ground

Toddler Bed Mattress Support Height

Like all of our toddler beds, the Mountain does not have an adjustable height and sits 9” from the ground.

Please note: A 6” thick mattress will sit on top of the mattress support!

9. Can you add rails to the Mountain toddler bed?

We do not sell rails for the Mountain toddler bed, however if this is something you’d like there are 3rd parties who offer rails that fit. Feel free to contact us for more information!

10. Does the Mountain crib come with wheels?

No, both the Mountain full crib and toddler bed are supported on legs.

Post Purchase

1. How does the crib ship?

Our cribs ship from Brazil via FedEx air. Shipping generally takes 7-10 days. The Mountain crib ships in 2 boxes and uses most of the same pieces for both the full crib and toddler bed. As a result, both boxes will be needed during the assembly of the full crib and toddler bed.  While we ship both boxes together, it is not uncommon for the boxes to be separated and delivered a couple of days apart from one another.

Here are all of the pieces included in each box:

Box 1

1x Lower Headboard

1x Lower Footboard

2x Small Rails

1x Upper Headboard

1x Upper Footboard

Box 2

1x Mattress Support

2x Side Panels

2x Rails

2x Legs

All Hardware

2. What sheets do I need?

Our full cribs and toddler beds are designed to be compatible with any standard size full crib sheets. We have our own line of super soft 100% GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified organic jersey-knit cotton sheets that we love and think you will too. Explore more here

3. When is the right time to assemble the crib?

We recommend that you assemble your crib 1-2 months before your baby’s arrival. This way, we have plenty of time to help you troubleshoot any unforeseen issues. Additionally, if the baby decides to come early, you’ll be all set with a crib for their arrival!

4. How long does it take to assemble the crib?

The Mountain full crib takes roughly 60 minutes to assemble while the toddler bed takes about 25 minutes.

5. At what age should I transition to the toddler bed?

We recommend switching to the toddler bed once your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches (See below for the recommended ages for switching the mattress support height!).

We recommend you transition away from the toddler bed once your child's weight exceeds 50 pounds.

6. For the full crib, at what age should I move the mattress lower?

We recommend switching to the middle mattress support height once your baby is able to sit up independently and has begun to crawl.

We recommend switching to lower mattress support height once your baby starts to be able to stand on their own.

After this, you can continue to use the lowest mattress support position until your baby reaches 35" tall or begins to be able to climb, in which case it's time to convert to the toddler bed!
