Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the Snow Crib

Interested in our Snow crib and not sure if it’s the right fit for your nursery? Here we’ll explore all the questions you might have during each stage of your purchase: during the buying process, after purchasing and after delivery!

Pre-Purchase

1. What is the Snow crib?

The Snow crib is a 3-in-1 convertible crib. Designed to grow with your baby, it easily converts from a bassinet, to a full crib to a toddler bed.

2. What is the difference between the Snow and the Wave, Cloud, and Candy Cloud cribs?

Unlike the Wave, Cloud and Candy Cloud cribs, our Snow crib starts off as a bassinet which is smaller than our mini cribs. Additionally, unlike our mini cribs, the Snow bassinet does not have adjustable mattress heights.

3. What is the Snow crib made of?

The Snow crib is made out of sustainably-harvested Brazilian eco-engineered wood and is available in white.

4. What safety standards / certifications does the Snow crib have?

GREENGUARD Gold certified

Nestig meets and exceeds the safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and ASTM International, most recently the ASTM F833-15 standard. We’ve also taken our commitment to safety one step further by testing and certifying our products with the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) whose requirements go above and beyond the mandatory governmental requirements.

The Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association certifies that both our cribs are non-toxic and that they have a high mechanical quality.

For materials and chemicals, safety in both the construction and paints/finishes is our top priority. When we use eco-engineered wood or glue, we always use TSCA Title VI compliant materials. This means that our products comply with the strictest formaldehyde standards.

All wood used on our cribs comes from reforested areas in Brazil that are maintained by our suppliers. We work with wood suppliers that are FSC certified, which adds an additional assurance that the wood came from a responsible source with minimal impact to the environment. There is also no fire retardant used on the crib.

We use a clear coat of finishing in our products to maintain the quality of wood over time. Our finishings and paints come from top-quality brands and meet all US safety requirements.

5. Does the Snow include a mattress?

Each crib purchase includes a mini mattress, but not a full size crib mattress.

Our mini cribs are a custom size, as a result, we include a mini mattress. The Snow mini crib mattress measures 27.5” x 19” x 2”. This hypoallergenic mini mattress is made in Brazil from 100% polyurethane foam with a non-removable 100% polyester cover. It contains no lead or phthalates. It is designed with a newborn baby in mind and complies with all US safety and toxicity regulations.

Please note: The included mini-mattress is not waterproof, so we recommend using a mattress protector.

Nestig does not include a full crib mattress with the crib purchase so you will need to purchase one. The good news is, both our Snow full cribs and toddler beds are designed to be compatible with any standard-sized full crib mattress, therefore you only need to buy one! If you’re interested, we have three different full crib mattresses available on our site.

6. Does Nestig offer an upgraded mattress for the Snow bassinet?

We currently do not have an upgraded mattress option for the bassinet. This means that the bassinet mattress that comes with the Snow is the only one that can be used since the Snow bassinet is a custom size.

7. What are the assembled dimensions for each crib conversion stage?

Here are the assembled dimensions for each conversion stage to help you determine whether the Snow is right for you!

Bassinet: 30" length x 20.5" width x 24.5" height

Full crib: 53.9" length x 30" width x 38.6" height

Toddler bed: 53.9” length x 30" width x 23.86" height

8. Adjustable heights:

Bassinet: Unlike our Wave, Cloud and Candy Cloud mini cribs, the Snow Bassinet does not have adjustable heights. The Snow Bassinet is designed to be used bedside, and the mattress support measures 14.5” from the ground to the top of the mattress support

Please note: A 2” thick mattress will sit on top of the mattress support.

Full Crib Mattress Support Heights

Lowest: 11.1” from the ground

Middle: 16.7” from the ground

Highest: 22.3” from the ground

Toddler Bed:

Like all our toddler beds, the Snow toddler bed does not have an adjustable height and measures 11.2” from the ground to the top of the mattress support.

Please note: A 6” thick mattress will sit on top of the mattress support!

9. Does the Snow crib come with wheels?

The Snow bassinet has wheels for easy mobility while both the full crib and toddler bed have legs.

Post Purchase

1. How does the Crib ship?

Our cribs ship from Brazil via FedEx air. Shipping generally takes 7-10 days. The Snow crib ships in 3 boxes. The first includes everything you need for the bassinet (including the bassinet mattress), the second and the third include everything you need for the full crib and toddler bed. While we ship all three boxes together, it is not uncommon for the boxes to be separated and delivered a couple days apart from one another.

The list below lists all the pieces included in each box:

Box 1 |  Bassinet

1x Headboard with holes

1x Footboard

4x Lower Legs

2x Mini Mattress Supports

2x Mini Mattress Support Rails

2x Small Panel

4x Wheels

All hardware

Box 2 | Full Crib

1x Footboard

1x Headboard without holes

4x Upper Legs

Box 3 | Toddler Bed

2x Side Panels

1x Mattress Support

2x Mattress Support Rails

2x Toddler Bed Kit

All the hardware you need for each conversion can be found in the bassinet box. Additionally, you will need to use the same hardware from the bassinet assembly when you convert to the full crib and toddler bed.

2. What sheets do I need?

The Snow bassinet is a custom size, so a standard bassinet sheet will not fit. However, our beautiful line of Nestig sheets are designed to fit perfectly! They come in sets of two and are made of 100% GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified organic jersey-knit cotton. The mini crib sheet sets are $35 and the full crib sheet sets are $49. Explore more here

Additionally, our full cribs and toddler beds are designed to be compatible with any standard size full crib mattress, therefore any standard size full crib sheets will fit.

You might notice that the Snow bassinet mattress is a different dimension than the Wave, Cloud, and Candy Cloud mini cribs, however this difference is minimal and allows us to offer jersey-knit sheets that stretch to fit both beautifully.

3. When is the right time to assemble the crib?

We recommend that you assemble your crib 1-2 months before your baby’s arrival. This way, we have plenty of time to help you troubleshoot any unforeseen issues. Additionally, if the baby decides to come early, you’ll be all set with a crib for their arrival!

4. How long does it take to assemble the crib?

The Snow bassinet and full crib each take roughly 35 minutes to assemble while the toddler bed takes around 25 minutes.

5. At what age should I transition into the full crib and/or toddler bed?

The bassinet is recommended for ages 0-5 months or up to 20 pounds. We recommend you stop using the bassinet when the baby shows signs of pulling up, rolling over, or pushing up to knee position.

Once you transition to the full crib, we recommend switching to the toddler bed once your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches (See below for the recommended ages for switching the mattress support height!).

We recommend you transition away from the toddler bed once your child's weight exceeds 50 pounds.

6. For the full crib, at what recommended age should parents move the mattress lower?

We recommend switching to the middle mattress support height once your baby is able to sit up independently and has begun to crawl.

We recommend switching to lower mattress support height once your baby starts to be able to stand on their own.

After this, you can continue to use the lowest mattress support position until your baby reaches 35" tall or begins to be able to climb, in which case it's time to convert to the toddler bed!
