The Perfect Fit
Measure Like a Pro

First, measure the length of the window, top to bottom.
Next, measure the length from the top of the window to where you want to hang your curtain rod. (More on the perfect curtain rod placement here!)
Then measure the length from the bottom of the window to where you would like the curtain to end. (More on curtain length here.)
Add your measurements from steps 1 through 3 together and find the closest curtain length from our assortment (63”, 84” or 96”). Round up to be sure the curtains will cover your window.
Measure the width of your window to decide if you'd like one or two curtains. (Tip: For a fuller look, aim for curtains to be 1.5 to 2 times the width of your window. Always round up to make sure the curtains will cover your window when drawn.)

Pick Out Your Curtains

(Tip: When hanging, keep a pencil handy to leave light markings to make things even.)
Curtain rods look best placed above and outside the window's molding. To make your room feel more spacious, hang your curtain rod 3 to 6 inches above the window frame and ensure each end of your curtain rod extends 3 to 6 inches beyond the window frame on both sides.
An exception to the rule: For smaller spaces or multiple windows close together, hang your curtain rods close to the window to avoid the room feeling cluttered.

For long curtains the space in between should be just enough for each panel to barely brush the floor, hovering about a half inch off the ground. This helps your drapes to stay in place, minimizing how dirty they get and making it easy to vacuum the floor.
If your ceiling height is high, install the rod halfway between the top of the window and the ceiling, which will make the room feel even more spacious.
If your ceiling isn’t very high, try to place the rod at least 6 to 7 inches above the top of the window.
