“Traditional” means that our wallpaper and murals are applied using an adhesive that you paste on your wall, unlike peel-and-stick wallpaper, which comes with it’s own adhesive. Traditional wallpaper and murals are known for their high quality and longevity—something you definitely want when it comes to such a statement making design element!

Because of the extra step of using adhesive, we strongly recommend working with a professional installer to hang your wall mural.

Every rental situation is different, so while we can’t answer this with a yes or no, we can give you a little more information to help you decide whether our wall mural is right for you.

Our wall murals are made from “traditional” wallpaper which means the murals are applied with an adhesive paste (unlike peel and stick wallpaper). If you choose to apply the mural to walls in good condition, with a high quality primer and strippable adhesive, there should be very little to no damage to your walls upon removal besides the possible removal of some of the paint and/or primer that is underneath.

Our murals are 10 feet tall and 12.8 feet wide, however we know that walls come in many different sizes! Each mural is designed to potentially be trimmed on the sides, top and bottom without losing any essential design elements. Any professional installer should be able to trim whatever you need to ensure that it fits on your wall. However, we don’t recommend our murals for any wall smaller than 6 feet tall by 7 feet wide as trimming to fit a smaller wall would cause too much of the design to be lost. Mural samples include:

An “actual size” sample: This shows the mural’s real size—think of it as just a smaller slice of one of the full panels you will receive.

A “full wall” sample: This shows the mural at a scale of 1:10 in a “room” that is 12.8 ft wide and 10 feet high so you can get a sense of what it will look like once installed.

Please note: Because all of our murals are printed in small batches, there is some slight color variation batch to batch. This means there might be a small difference in color between the sample and the final product you receive.

Our traditional, non-woven wallpaper and murals work best on flat, untextured white walls, as any uneven or colored surfaces like stucco or plaster will show through the paper once installed. White, painted drywall is ideal.

Here are a few essential tips if you want to install it yourself:

PREPPING YOUR WALLS

Make sure your hanging surface is clean and dry, as well as free from any damage (like holes from nails)—you want it to be as smooth as possible!

Paint on a coat of wallpaper primer. We recommend Roman PRO-909 Vinyl Prep® Clear Wallcovering Primer which is water-based.

Wallpaper and murals work best on flat, untextured white walls, as any uneven or colored surfaces like stucco or plaster will show through the paper once installed. White, painted drywall is ideal.

HANGING YOUR PAPER

We recommend using Roman ECO-888 Premium Clear Strippable Wallcovering Adhesive which is VOC free.

If the wall mural is too large for your walls, you or your installer should be able to trim whatever you need to ensure that it fits. For more information on our minimum wall size recommendations and how to trim, see the question above “What size wall is the mural meant for?”

Roll an even coat of adhesive onto your primed walls. Apply one panel on top of the adhesive; we recommend using a clean, soft-bristled brush or squeegee to smooth it down onto the wall.

Before applying each additional panel, clean off any excess adhesive with a soft, lightly damp sponge. Then, apply paste on the wall for the next panel—be sure to line the edges up and smooth from the center out. Repeat until finished!

Note: Our wall murals come in panels which are labeled A-H and are meant to be installed in alphabetical order, left to right.

Our murals are designed to last (and look lovely!) for years and years. In order to keep the mural in its best condition, we recommend hanging it in a room without excessive humidity and spot cleaning it when necessary with a soft, damp cloth and a mild soap.

We’re dedicated to using the safest materials for you and your little one. Our non-woven, traditional wall murals are printed on non-toxic paper made from 80% cellulose and 20% synthetic fibers and are printed with Greenguard Gold certified inks.

We recommend spot cleaning our wall murals with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept returns for any wallpaper or murals - used or unused. We highly recommend ordering our wallpaper samples and thoroughly measuring the space before placing your order!
