Being a designer by trade, Candace Griffin was a natural when it came to designing a nursery for her little one, Quincy. At the same time, Candace’s sophisticated knowledge of all things decor made it difficult for her to pin down an exact style to implement in the space. “I see so much inspiration in my line of work,” Candace reflects—you can follow along with her design work @candacemaryinteriors.
Read on to learn more about Candace’s decorating process, what she enjoys the most about the final space, and how she is taking care of herself, even as a busy new mom.
Cozy, sleek, and inviting!
I started with what I knew I wanted. I knew I wanted the space to feel calming yet slightly unexpected. I knew I wanted a darker pop of color on the ceiling and a fun pattern on the walls. Initially, I thought I wanted the wallpaper to be very colorful, but as the design plans further developed, I pivoted and went with a black and white rainbow pattern to contrast with the pink board and batten. I also went with an easily removable wall decal so we have the option to switch it up over time.
My two favorite pieces are the crib and the dresser. The dresser is a mid-century refurbished piece. I love that it's one of a kind, and the details are perfect. The color and the hardware make the piece very special. The crib was also a special purchase for us, because it was one of the items I saved for nursery inspo, even before I found out we were pregnant.
Go for it! It's well made, stylish, and grows with your little one over time. I also appreciated how Nestig was conscious of my due date so they were able to prioritize getting me the crib before Quincy arrived.
My favorite memory so far is story time, I love reading to her and seeing her slowly become more and more alert. Her room has the best vibes and is a really cozy space to begin with, we love spending time in there. I’ve even found myself sending emails from her room, just because it feels so nice to be in the space.
Ha! Ask me in a few months—right now I’m just staying afloat ! With that said, I’ve got a new perspective on self care and am focused on my physical and mental health; I want to be the best for Quincy. I work out, go for walks, and do quite a bit of yoga. I squeeze those things in whenever I can.
